It is with the deepest sorrow that I must inform everyone that we have lost a dear friend and fellow railroader, Nelson Riedel, this week. Nelson has been battling cancer for several years now, and battle he did. Nelson, who was known to be a world traveler with his wife Marianne and a teacher/mentor to many of us, has been a huge part of Mill Creek Central Railroad through the decades with his work on numerous projects at the track, including the design of our huge trestle, our signaling system, automation of our transfer tables, and many other projects too numerous to mention. The thing I will miss the most is his fun and loving spirit, his affability, and intelligence. I can’t tell you how many times through the years that I would wake up in the early morning hearing Kelley on the phone with Nelson (they were both very early risers) and belly laughing about something as they were discussing the upgrades to our signaling system and other projects. Go in peace, my good friend, you will be missed by many.
